During the Battle of McAuliffe, battleship Yorkshire was exchanging shots with two kilrathi battleships. Yorkshire is destroyed; but a few seconds later one of the kilrathi battleships explodes; and yet a few seconds later the other one partly cracks open. Apparently, the Gamorin class battleships had been turned into battlecruisers by direct orders of the Emperor…

Action Stations, page 320:

[Gilkarg:] “And you lost a battleship. How was that?”
[Nargth:] “It is a mystery, my lord. But remember, I warned the Emperor years ago that the Gamorin class battleships need more armor instead of greater speed. I think that is the reason.”
Gilkarg bristled at the implication of laying blame for the failure on his father.
