Released in 1994, Super Wing Commander was a remake of the original Wing Commander and its expansions for the 3DO system (and later ported to Mac). It featured full speech and original ship designs which differed substantially from those seen in the original Wing Commander.

The game is considered non-canonical, however, as it features the main character (who we would come to know as Blair as of Wing Commander III) named as “Armstrong”, and discards the Secret Missions 2 expansion in favor of a set of original missions.

The Super Wing Commander version of the F-44A Rapier II was used as inspiration for the Rapier II variants seen in Wing Commander Arena.
